How It Is Made

Argan oil is extracted from the kernels of Argan fruit, which grows only in small areas of Morocco. For centuries, the hard work of extracting oil from the Argan kernels has been done by the indigenous women of North Africa, known as the Berber women. To this day, these women are still solely responsible for gathering the fruit and producing the oil.

The extraction process starts by sun-drying the fruit to remove the nut from the fleshy pulp. Next, each nut is cracked by hand with stone tools to remove the kernels. The kernels are then pressed to produce the oil. The overall production process is extremely time-consuming, requiring approximately 110 pounds of Argan fruit and 20 hours of work to produce half a liter of this precious oil.
